Hachita, the little hatchet
Hachita, the little hatchet
The ultimate bike nerds dream.
Design brief:
-Be beautiful
-fit and be compatible with as many older parts as possible
-Ride well and perform well, even when loaded
-Be beautiful
Rim brake frames are tough…as soon as you stick those posts on the frame, it pigeon holes the builder into a wheel size and a brake type. But what if I have 650b wheels? What about my cool old set of mafac brakes? TS…until Hachita.
“Adjustable” isnt as accurate as “configurable”…with the minimalist plates and heavy duty m6 bosses there are 4 positions for the canti posts to be in.. canti/V brakes for 700c wheels, high pivot for 700c wheels, and the same for 650b wheels. We even have another set of plates to accommodate 26er wheels. Long reach caliper brakes can come to the party too…because why not?
This should cover the majority of rim brakes…but what about disc? Remember qr disc brakes? Yep…the Hachita can do that too. We didn't overbuild the fork to be too heavy…but just enough not to shudder with that front disc. Still compliant and comfy but just enough material to be safe for disc.
Disc brakes .. how about, single speed? Or fixed? Yep, the Hachita features the old school forward facing dropout with plenty of wheel travel for 1 speed chain tension. Hachita also has a disc mount that can swing to accomate rear wheel travel for chain tension.
Ok…how about fork mounts? The three pack mounts are in the right spots to double as lowrider mounts. Also, a couple bosses on top of the fork crown along with the long reach caliper mount make it compatiable with almost any rack. Oh…there's a couple bosses on the dropout for some fenders or a lower rack mount. Just enough to be built with whatever rack you've got…and not too much that it's not beautiful.
How about cable guides? Full housing? Cable stops? Top or bottom swing front derailleur? Downtube shifters? Yep, yep, yep…yes to all these.
How about tubeset? Surly sewer pipe? No way… double butted cro-moly from one of the best tubing houses on the planet. Saves some global shipping on the fanciest name branded stuff, we went ahead and sourced the same stuff from the same producers but skipped the sticker. We also customized the tubeset for each size. Small and medium get an oversized (OS) tubeset and the large and XL get a double oversized (DOS) version. Still the skinny steal ride and aesthetic but just enough to avoid the noodly feeling of vintage frames. Combined with the 1 1/8” threadless steerer and 37mm headtube…the speed wiggles aren't present on the Hachita.
The timelessness continues with a beautiful lugged headtube but we weren't tied to all the old school geo because we went with a fillet brazed bi-lam seat cluster and a fillet brazed bb shell. All the lugged beauty of lugs without being sent to lugjail.
The geometry freedom let's us keep a horizontal top tube in the m,l,xl with a little more slope to the small for some stand over love. The other thing the freedom from geo constraints allows us to clear full size modern rubber. 64mm front and rear gets you into a 29x2.1 at least… and in 650b…a 2.2 or maybe larger is possible. That's what your old CX or road doner bike didn't do…big rubber for big comfort.
27.2 post on the small and medium. The large and XL include a shim for 27.2 and could use a different shim (29.6) for bigger posts
Send me a message for cable stops or 26er copatable brake plates. I also have these forks avaiable in a raw finsih with a clear coat..until i get that updated…order an el continente bi-plane and let me know if the comments you want one of these.
